Due to the characteristics of chemical composition and crystal type of kaolinite, isomorphic substitution between ions (Al3 +, si4 +, Fe2 +, Mg2 +, Fe3 +) is common in the crystal cell of kaolinite. The particle size of a few worm like aggregates may reach millimeter level.Īfter the crystal structure of kaolinite is destroyed, there are two different types of crystal planes: (001) crystal plane, (110) and (010) crystal plane. Most of the crystal aggregates of kaolinite are worm like and accordion like, and the particle size is between 0.5 nm and 2 nm. Kaolinite belongs to triclinic system, and the crystal monomer is in the shape of pseudo hexagonal plate, and some of them are in the shape of books, as shown in Figure 1-1. The ideal structural formula is A14 (0h) 8, the theoretical chemical composition is SiO2 46.54%, A1203 39.50%, H20 13.96%. Kaolinite is a kind of layered silicate with dioctahedral structure (1:1), lattice spacing of 7a, no water molecules and other ions between layered structures, and hydrogen bond is the main valence bond of interlayer bonding. ![]()
